In line with the NBA-YLF Governing Council’s roadmap, the National Chairman, Timothy Clement, on 14th February 2025, led members of the Nigerian Bar Association – Young Lawyers Forum (NBA-YLF), alongside its partner Hope Behind Bars, on a strategic visit to the Kuje Correctional Facility, Abuja.
The visit was anchored on the Forum’s commitment to expanding access to justice through pro bono interventions, particularly for indigent inmates who lack the means to secure legal representation. During the engagement, young lawyers interacted directly with inmates to identify cases requiring urgent legal intervention, laying the groundwork for swift action and follow-up by the Forum.
A key highlight of the visit was the launch of the NBA-YLF Pro Bono Clinic, a structured initiative designed to enable young lawyers across the country to take up pro bono matters under the auspices of the Forum. This initiative not only strengthens the culture of service within the legal profession but also provides a coordinated platform for young lawyers to contribute meaningfully to justice delivery and societal impact.
In his remarks, the Chairman charged the leadership of NBA-YLF branches nationwide to ensure the full implementation of this initiative by actively encouraging members to participate in pro bono work. He emphasized that the success of the project depends on collective commitment and sustained engagement across all branches.
The NBA-YLF remains dedicated to promoting justice, equity, and service, reaffirming its role as a key driver of impactful legal intervention and social responsibility within the profession.
